It will help you focus on your prayers and strengthen your faith.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dua and Dhikr to Recite During Umrah\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preparing for Your Umrah Journey<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your spiritual journey for Umrah starts before you even get to Makkah. It begins with your intention (what you plan to do). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Actions are judged by intentions&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Bukhari, Muslim).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What to Read:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dua for your Journey:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0( Qur&#8217;an, Surah Az-Zukhruf 13\u201314)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: &#8220;Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it by our efforts. And indeed, to our Lord, we will surely return.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talbiyah intention for Umrah:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLabbaik Allahumma Umrah\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation:\u00a0 Here I am, O Allah, intending to perform Umrah<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask Allah to forgive you, apologise to people, and go with a clean heart and mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entering the State of Ihram<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To go into Makkah for Umrah, you must be in a holy state called Ihram. You start it at a place called the Miqat. There are five main gates, depending on where you&#8217;re coming from.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key actions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wear Ihram (for men: two unstitched white clothes, and for women, modest clothing).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make your niyyah (intention) for Umrah.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Begin reciting the Talbiyah:\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLabbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaika laa sharika laka labbaik. Innal hamda wan-ni&#8217;amata laka wal-mulk, laa sharika lak.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am. You have no partner. Surely, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should say these words often from the Miqat until you walk around the Kaaba (Tawaf).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entering Masjid al-Haram<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you enter the Grand Mosque in Makkah, look down to show you are humble and go in with respect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dua when you enter the mosque:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAllahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you first see the Kaaba, it&#8217;s good to stop and make any personal prayers you wish. Many scholars say this is a special time for prayers to be accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performing Tawaf (Circling the Kaaba)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tawaf means you walk 7 times around the Kaaba,\u00a0 counter-clockwise around the Kaaba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Tawaf:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don&#8217;t need to say a special prayer for each circle. You can read from the Quran, say &#8216;Talbiyah&#8217;, or just pray for anything.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to say this when you&#8217;re between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina &#8216;adhab an-nar.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can use this prayer repeatedly or talk to God in your own way, in any language.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Praying Behind Maqam Ibrahim<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you complete your Tawaf, it is Sunnah to pray two Rak&#8217;ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim (if there&#8217;s space).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suggested recitation in prayer:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Rak&#8217;ah: Surah Al-Kafirun<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Rak&#8217;ah: Surah Al-Ikhlas<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, drink Zamzam water and make a dua after drinking. This is believed to be a moment when duas are accepted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet said,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Ibn Majah).<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sa&#8217;i Between Safa and Marwah<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sa&#8217;i is a special walk. You have to walk seven times between Safa and Marwah. It&#8217;s done to remember Hajar, who was Prophet Ibrahim&#8217;s wife. She ran between these hills, looking for water for her son, Ismail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Safa, recite:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inna as-Safa wal-Marwah min sha&#8217;a&#8217;irillah\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Surah Al-Baqarah: 158)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: (Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then say:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAllahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is no deity but Allah, Alone without a partner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also make your dua\u2019s while walking, especially at each end of the Sa&#8217;i.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shaving or Trimming Hair (Halq or Taqsir)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This part of the journey shows you are humble and ready for a fresh start. Men can either shave all their hair off or just trim it short. Women only need to cut a bit from the very end of their hair, like a little snip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Say:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Allahumma taqabbal minni.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Translation: O Allah, accept this from me.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Completing Umrah<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your hair is cut, your Umrah is done! You can then take off your Ihram and go back to normal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But try to keep your connection strong with Allah. You can do this by saying Dhikr like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Subhanallah&#8221; \u2013 Glory be to Allah<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Alhamdulillah&#8221; \u2013 Praise be to Allah<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d \u2013 Allah is the Greatest<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Astaghfirullah&#8221; \u2013 I seek forgiveness from Allah<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Final Thoughts<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every part of Umrah is a time to feel close to God. You don&#8217;t need to learn many long Arabic prayers. What matters is that you pray from your heart. Just talk from your heart. Say what you know. And always remember why you came: to get closer to God.
